Case Study: Cultivating an Agricultural Logo Suite and Brand Design for Sancta Maria Farms

There is a beautiful, growing movement of values-driven Catholic entrepreneurs returning to the land: combining the traditional grit of homesteading with a deep, sacramental love for the Catholic faith. Sancta Maria Farms is a small American family farm built on exactly this vision: a dream to seamlessly blend their daily homesteading labor with their devotion to the Catholic Church.
When they were ready to transition their family homestead into a commercial market offering, they approached Chrism Studio (in partnership with Hero Strategies) to build an elegant agricultural logo suite and a small business brand guide that felt rooted in Catholicism, communicated their diverse farm offerings, and respected the lean startup budget of a family farm. A Catholic graphic designer was the perfect fit.
Here is an inside look at how we engineered a multi-asset brand identity with the technical foresight required for real-world product packaging and physical production.
The Challenge: Quality Assets on a Startup Budget
Faith-based small businesses and agricultural startups often face a unique creative hurdle: trying to force a complex, illustrative idea into a single, rigid logo file. Sancta Maria Farms needed an identity that felt traditional and high-end, but the design had to anticipate two specific real-world challenges:
Diverse Product Lines: The branding needed to capture the holistic nature of a homestead, representing livestock (goats, chickens, rabbits) alongside crops and traditional Catholic piety.
Substrate and Surface Adaptability: Because farm branding is ultimately applied to unpredictable, highly textured physical mediums, the logo mark had to be technically engineered to remain flawless whether it was embroidered on a canvas cap, burned onto a wooden crate, printed on a glossy jar label, or hand-stamped onto cardboard egg cartons.
Production Cost Efficiency: To keep physical marketing and manufacturing costs low, the visual assets had to be engineered to look premium even when utilizing low-cost, single-color printing methods.
The Process: Marrying Farm and Faith
To give the client maximum market value without sacrificing strategic depth, we compressed our core workflow into a design sprint: Brand Strategy Research, Logo Design, and Mini Brand Guide Development.
1. Brand Strategy Research
During our initial strategy phase, we explored the values of the family and homesteading imagery. They sent plenty of reference photos featuring their barn, garden, and beloved animals.
2. Logo Design
We created a custom logo mark with Our Lady standing with hands extended in blessing, surrounded by the symbolic twelve stars of the Miraculous Medal. Resting beneath her mantle are cleanly stylized silhouettes of the farm's heartbeat: a rabbit, a goat, and a chicken, flanked by St. Joseph the Worker’s crook and blooming lilies. All tied together by the shape of a traditional Catholic church window.
We provided three logo versions for their logo to function well in different environments, like on narrow packaging, a website header, and a business card.
3. Mini Brand Guide
To ensure the farm family could confidently scale their marketing while maintaining brand integrity, we delivered a concise yet functional mini brand guide.
We selected a natural, earthy color palette dominated by sage greens, warm charcoal, loam browns, and soft cream tones to mirror the physical landscape of the homestead. For typography, we established an accessible, robust font system featuring PT Serif Bold for a commanding, traditional editorial presence, paired with PT Sans Caption Regular for clean, highly readable small-scale packaging labels and ingredient lists.
The Results: A Family Agricultural Logo Suite, Grounded in Faith
The final result provided Sancta Maria Farms with a cohesive and pleasant visual identity.
Chrism Studio successfully balanced a lean development budget with elite, custom design execution. The family walked away with a cohesive brand asset suite that communicates their values. These assets can be used across all of their digital marketing, merchandise, and physical product applications. By wrapping their hard work in a visual identity that honors the True, Good, and Beautiful, they are perfectly positioned to grow their market footprint and sow hope in the community.
