When a clinician decides to align their professional practice with the depth of the Catholic faith, the visual branding needs to reflect it accurately. A logo for a Catholic therapist cannot just be a clinical, sterile icon. It must embody hope, healing, and traditional reverence.

Chrism Studio partnered with a Midwest mental health counselor making a profound pivot: transitioning his practice into an explicitly Catholic direction. Armed with the new name, Our Lady of Good Counsel Therapy, he turned to Chrism Studio to serve as his Catholic logo designer and bring his spiritual and professional vision to life.

Here is how we translated Catholic traditional design into a clean, versatile Catholic startup branding identity.

The Problem: Merging Clinical Trust with Theological Alignment

The client faced a unique creative challenge common to many faith-based entrepreneurs. He needed a timeless and professional faith-based branding system that accomplished three distinct goals:

  1. Establish Immediate Trust: The logo had to feel clinical enough to assure parents, individuals, and couples of his professional credentials.

  2. Signal Theological Alignment: It needed to clearly signal to practicing Catholics that his psychological approach is entirely faithful to Catholic anthropology and virtue.

  3. Communicate Consolation: Because therapy clients are often navigating anxiety, depression, or trauma, the design needed to radiate peace, authentic humility, and healing.

The Process: Merging Concepts about Hope

To ensure the new brand system felt both timeless and professional, we moved through a 3-step process: Brand Strategy Research, Logo Design, and Brand System Development.

1. Brand Strategy Research and Creative Vision

During our initial research and strategy phase, the client brought a beautiful, highly specific creative brief to the table in addition to the other criteria. He wanted a visual cross between a Benedictine Medal and a Miraculous Medal.

Our challenge was to honor the intricate, traditional geometry of those sacred images while ensuring the final mark remained clean, modern, and easily scalable. We researched the core visual elements of both medals to understand how to blend traditional church history with the comforting, professional environment of a modern counseling practice.

We also did research on the target audience, creating user personas that reflected those traits which humanized the audience. This helps us tailor design to the audiences, driving more leads.

2. Concept Development and Logo Design

Once the strategic groundwork was laid, we explored various concepts with thumbnail sketches. One concept was chosen and developed into a digital vector to build out the core logo. The final design delivers a stunning circular emblem, like the St. Benedict Medal, featuring Our Lady with her hands extended in an approachable gesture of grace and maternal protection, reminiscent of the Miraculous Medal.

3. Brand System Development: Typography and Color Strategy

The final phase was expanding the logo into a comprehensive brand system where every single choice was anchored in strategy and intention:

  • The Marian Blue: We selected a rich blue to honor Our Lady, but also for its psychological benefits. Blue is proven to be a calming, peaceful color for clients processing difficult emotions. In a beautiful stroke of alignment, the client’s physical therapy office was already painted this exact soothing shade.

  • The Eucharistic Gold: We accented the blue with a warm, radiant gold. This choice was deeply intentional, designed to evoke the holiness of the Eucharist and the timeless beauty of a monstrance.

  • The Typography: For the overarching brand system lettering, we utilized an accessible, premium typeface that balanced traditional, historic weight with perfect modern legibility on printed clinic forms and digital layouts alike.

  • The Logo Suite: This project included a logo suite complete with badge, horizontal, vertical, and abbreviated layouts. With a mark as detailed as this, it was also important to include a version that would still be legible at smaller sizes.

The Solution & Results: "One of the Highlights of Our Year"

The resulting brand system provides Our Lady of Good Counsel Therapy with a distinguished, deeply comforting visual presence.

While Chrism Studio did not design the practice's website, seeing our finalized emblem integrated at the top of their digital home demonstrates the true power of an engineered logo system. Whether it is anchored on a website header, printed on a business card, or placed on confidential intake forms, the emblem acts as a stamp of quality and faithful devotion.

Best of all, the design didn't just look great. It resonated deeply with the client. After the project was complete, the client reached out to share that it was his “highlight of the year.”

The client walked away with an elite emblem that perfectly aligns with his vision, honors the True, Good, and Beautiful, and reassures every incoming patient that they are entering a space of true Christ-centered healing.
